LG BP420 Blu Ray Player Review

Recently i have purchased lg bp 420 blu ray player from local market of uttam nagar, delhi for 5000 unbelievably. Othrs were selling same for 7k or 8k. Anyways, let me start my review of this blu ray player.

Physical structure/ design: The colour of lg bp 420 blu ray player is black, it was covered in thin plastic. Its size is bit large, weight wise it is ok.

Connectivity: It has one usb port in front which can be used to connect usb drive and hard disk drive as well. On the back side, hdmi port, lan port and audio video connectivity jacks are there.

Remote controller: Fortunately, i got new remote controller which is much shorter in size and operates at one battery only.
Through this remote controller, you can easily control your lg tv as well.

Functions: Now we have come to the most interesting part of lg bp 420 blu ray player.
On the start screen you will see video, music, lg apps, settings etc.

In the video section, you can see all movies or videos either from disc or from usb.

Similarly, in the music section you will see music only, which is stored in disc or usb or network.

Lg apps section provides you list of apps like facebook,youtube etc. By this app you can directly play youtube videos and surf facebook on your blu ray player.

In the settings section, you can control all the playback option like default wallpaper, tv resolution, language etc.

Formats: This was my favourite part, for which i reseached a lot. This player can play almost all the formats which are currently prevailing, including flv as well.
This device contains avchd because of which it can play any format. When i went to lg store, i brought my pen drive with 10 different formats and it played all the formats without any issue.

This was the only reason to purchase this lg bp 420 as my dvd player used to support few formats and few resolutions only, and i got fed up with converting videos time and again which was a time consuming procedure. I found a way to overcome one of the problems of conversion and i have written an article about same here

Shortcomings: There is no volume control option in the player itself, just unlike it was in my philips dvp 3166 dvd player. Which means you have to control volume of your tv to adjust sound. This was the most sucking thing for me as i was using creative inspire t3100 speakers to listen audio of the video songs. Now, how would i control volume??? This problem made me sell my lovely speakers on quikr and i bought new intex remote controlled 5.1 speaker system costing 3500 inr.

Second weakness is that if you want to play youtube videos via lan, you need to have high speed broadband connection, my 512kbps mtnl connection, gave up in playing hd videos as there is no control over resolution and quality of video, it will always play to its full extent.

Third one was that there is no wifi connectivity option.

Conclusion: At this price, lg has really offered a great model lg bp 420 which suits requirement of most of the individuals.
